Exploring Thai Food and Culture

All of Kasma's endeavors have grown out of her love of food and cooking. This page is the doorway to various explorations including recipes, articles on Thai food and culture, herbs, markets that sell Thai ingredients, and Kasma's favorite Thai brands.

Thai Recipes

Every so often we post a new recipe. Our index includes around 30 recipes from past postings, ranging from appetizers to desserts. The recipes are taken from Kasma's book, It Rains Fishes, from her monthly articles in The San Jose Mercury News, and from her own private collection.

Thai Food and Culture Articles

We occasionally post a new article exploring some facet of Thai food and culture. Articles range from how to make fish sauce, jasmine rice, balancing flavors, the Durian to how to make a curry paste from scratch. Some articles are taken from It Rains Fishes, others from The San Jose Mercury News, while others are written expressly for the site.

Thai Ingredients

On an occasional basis we will be adding new ingredients.

Thai Markets

One of the reasons that home-made Thai food can taste so much better than what we find in restaurants here in the United States relies on the ingredients being of the highest quality. Because finding the right ingredients is so important, we include three pages to help you find what you need.

Favorite Thai Brands

Over the years Kasma has developed some strong opinions about which brand of various ingredients she prefers to use. This page lists her favorite brands (available in the United States) as well as a few hints on buying other ingredients. Check out the market pages for sources to buy them.
