Welcome to Kasma Loha-unchit's cultural & culinary trips to Thailand. These off-the-beaten path adventures for people who love Thai food and who want to get to know true Thai culture are offered between November and February each year.

Kasma's Fall & Winter Trips to Thailand (Nov. 2014 through Feb. 2015)

Thai Silk

Northeastern Thailand (Isan) – Trip NE – 19 days

Northeastern Thailand – Isan (or Isaan) is the largest geographical region in Thailand and a region that that still greatly values traditional Thai culture. This unique trip of 19 days (in Thailand) will extensively explore this less-touristed region. Isan is known for its textiles, both cotton and silk, and we'll visit numerous weaving villages in the area. We'll visit numerous temples, lively markets, ancient Khmer ruins, beautiful natural parks with fascinating rock formations. You'll feast on northeastern Thai cuisine throughout the entire trip, sampling well-known favorites such as Green Papaya Salad (Som Tam) and Barbecued Chicken (Gai Yang) as well as being introduced to many Thai dishes you did not even know existed.

  • Dates: Nov. 25 – Dec. 13, 2014 (+ travel days)
  • Price: $2,750, plus airfare, subject to change. For 10 or less, add $200.

Central & Northern Thailand – Trip B – 17 days

Perhaps the most popular of Kasma's trips, you'll start out with some sightseeing and feasting in Bangkok and then head upcountry. You'll spend a few days in the historical heartland of Thailand, in Sukhothai & Ayuthaya, exploring historical sites, temples and Thai crafts. Then you'll move on to the north, visiting the lovely foothills of the Himalayas, living hill-tribe villages (not just for tourists). Then in Mae Hong Son you'll stay at a lovely eco-resort, ride elephants and explore the Burmese-influenced temples. Whenever possible, you'll eat your way through colorful, bustling open-air markets. And, of course, you'll feast on the very best food that Thailand has to offer. In the U.S. we see maybe 5% of the dishes available in Thailand: come try some of the other 95%!

  • Dates: Dec. 31, 2014 – Jan. 16, 2015 (+ travel days)
  • Price: $2,750, plus airfare, subject to change. For 10 or less, add $200.

Southern Thailand – Trip So – 25 days

This is a trip for nature lovers, for people who love beaches & the sea and who love to snorkel. We'll visit 4 marine National Parks with the best snorkeling in Thailand; Kasma's been snorkeling these reefs for many years and knows the best spots. We'll rent our own boats so we can snorkel at each spot as long as we'd like. We'll also visit a magical lake with majestic limestone karsts in Khao Sok National Park, a Thale noi National park with it's lovely swamplands and huge locks of wintering waterfowl, and more. You'll visit other highlights of southern culture, open-air markets and feast on authentic southern cuisine the entire trip – you'll eat what the southern Thais eat.

Northern Thailand – Trip No – 18 days

We're very excited about this trip which will go to central northern Thailand, visiting the provinces of Phrae, Bua, Chiang Rai, Nan and more. This part of Thailand is less developed than other parts; many of the cities feel smaller, contain interesting wooden buildings are somehow more walkable. You'll visit many temples on this trip, most of which will contain fabulous temple murals that vary in complexity, style and subject matter. You'll visit beautiful mountains and interesting rock formations. Of course, you'll visit vibrant open-air markets and feast on delicious Thai food the entire time, as with all of Kasma's trips. This will be a unique opportunity to explore the hidden areas of this region of Thailand.

  • Dates: January 2016, Dates TBA (+ travel days)
  • Price: TBA plus airfare.

We are still developing the itinerary for this trip.
