Manora Dancing

Manora Dancing: Although the beaches and snorkeling are such high points in this trip, I think some of the other moments actually set it apart from Kasma's other trips. On the day we leave Nakhon we make a stop at an elementary school where we'll see a demonstration of the manora dancing that is indigenous to southern Thailand. It is perhaps the highlight of the trip, for me. The people at the school are so welcoming – it is a really big deal for them that a group of westerners takes such interest in their culture and comes to visit. The children are so welcoming and so excited to see "fahrangs" (the Thai word for a white westerner) – for many of them, it is the first time they've ever actually met one of us.
