Kaeng Som Pla: On menu under Hot & Sour Soup. Described on menu as: "Spicy sour fish soup with vegetables." For the fish, we ordered pla gkapong, which they call "Grey Mullet" and for a vegetable ordered yawd maprao, which they call "coconut bud" (it's the vegetable in the picture above). Kasma calls it
Spicy Sour Fish Soup with Coconut Buds, Gkaeng Som Bplah Gkapong Yawd Maprao. Our driver, Sun, is from the South and this is probably his favorite dish. Although incendiary in hotness, it is a spectacular taste of southern Thailand.
Note: These are all dishes that Kasma orders at Ruen Mai Restaurant in Krabi. The groups eat there for 4 or 5 meals during two of her small-group trips to Thailand, Trip A & Trip C.
